Soft rod carrier

Postby catskilljohn » Sun Feb 07, 2010 3:48 pm

I was thinking about all the snow and what to do now that its all cleared up, and hit the wife up for some of her amazing sewing skills.

Clarks had a thread on "rod rolls", like the ones Orvis made and someone reproduced them to sell, but the cost was pretty steep. I hate juggling rod tubes and the store bought carriers are so plasticy and cheap looking. We picked up some pleather fabric and some strapping, "D" rings and snaps and she whittled this up in about 2 hours. Cost, $21.00. I made a wooden handle for it and this thing just feels great, holds 4 rods [which is about 3 more than I usually take with me] and instead of dropping tubes as you go from 1 place to the next, I can safetly move them around in style. We made it with enough strap that I could still get 3 more in between the others, but hell, I dont have that many anyway and when do you carry 7 rods around normally?

CJ - very nice... super job by you and your wife... ;)

Like you, I tend to only bring one if fishing close, maybe two cane rods with me if far away... I tend to worry about theft and the effects of leaving a bamboo rod in a hot car - windows rolled up - during the summer...

That said, I can see where your rod roll would be highly useful and very functional...

I like it :D
As a person that travels and often have six or seven rods with me on any given day that looks sweet.
Your wife Andrea did a great job on that rod wrap. :D
I have a plastic cabela's rod tube that will hold 3 to 4 rods and even though it's not classic or pretty it's always loaded and in my truck. :geek:
Nice job Andrea do you free lance

Nice carrier CJ/Andrea. I am still using an old Bucks Bags rod bag that is pracically indestructable. Like Tom I also admired the ironing board cover mine is just plain blue/burned. Queens here thinks ironing is for old retired guys.
