Who's building a rod for the fall gathering? Just got the rules in the mail, may have enough time to squeek one out before Sept ;) 7'8" for a 5...hmmmm :D CJ

This is my kind of event...make a rod you can use everyday, try to get it to cast short, medium and long, and dress it up anyway you want without too many restrictions. Kind of like what you would do anyway :D CJ

I will list them for you...

a] blank will be inspected for glue lines, straightness, overall finish and ferrule fit. Any defects found will render the rod uneligable for competition, and will be burned in the barbeque pit next to the educational building.
b] if rod passes "a" rod will be strung up with competition line and leader, leader will be tyed to Ronbo's truck bumper, and with rod held at the 12:00 position, Ronbo will be instructed to accelerate up Old Rt 17 at full throttle. The rod must endure the test by either 1] removing bumper from truck, or 2] snapping line at knot where attached to spool.
c] If rod passes both a&b, it will then be handed to wolfie, if he can get more than 30ft of line in the air without it touching the ground in front of him or behind him, and no bull whip snapping noises are heard, rod will be eligable for the contest. :D

Seriously I shouldn't have said rules, more like guidelines. It simply has to be 7ft 8inches, and cast a 5wt DT sharkskin line which will be provided to all rodmakers entering a rod. If you enter a rod you cannot enter the casting competition, it will be one or the other. Looking forward to seeing yours Jack! CJ

wolfie,
in order to not take to much time in the qualifying, we are going to have to limit you to ten false casts to get the thirty feet. so your arm shouldn't be too sore.
