yes, that's correct. bergen county NJ.

134 square miles, 900,000 people and this little stream. called Bear Swamp Brook. wild brookies, black bear, deer...an anomaly for sure..

the little one grabbed the #20 royal wulff, ( ps, it's great using a fly i can see on the water) a bunch of it's cohorts played with gray hackles and some sort of scarlet soft hackle.

Are you sure thats NJ?

I read an article about that stream, very rugged terrain [for Jersey anyway, no paved walkways along the stream] and bears, ohh my!

Great shots Ted, very cool. CJ

"This is where the trout was invented?"

Nice pics Ted. Have known about that stream for as long as I can remember, but have never fished it. Don't know why. Hard to justify leaving my corner of the state I guess??

chris, it is a little wonder that is difficult to get into , long story, but holds water basically all year long. it reminds me of that little brook that empties into the black river in that state park in long valley. and van campens...

Hacklebarney State Park... lots of fond memories there... my parents would take us there as kids and I would fish, before my wife and I married - we had a few dates there, one of her first paintings she did was of the Black River in the park - still have it somewhere, I also caught my first trout ever on a fly - an Irresistible - in one of the tribs that fed the Black River... I'll remember that little brook trout as long as I live... 8-)

Thanks for the trip back in time... :)

Nice little stream, I sometimes fish it on my way home from work when I need to wet a line or get out a little early. NJ has a lot of nice little hidden gems like it.
