Anything fly tying...

MIA---Black Floss

Postby mikevalla » Sat Mar 13, 2010 2:24 pm

I have more spools of floss than you could ever want in a lifetime. Old floss, new floss, Rayon, silk---every color you can think of. Boxes of floss. So much floss that you would think I manufacture floss in my basement.

But...do you think I could find just ONE spool of simple black floss? MIA. I have no idea where it is. Need it. Needed it NOW!

Jumped in the Jeep. Drove 100 miles round trip to Scotia--near Albany. They have floss at a place called Goldstock's. An entire rack of floss. More floss and threads than you would ever imagine a shop carrying.

But...what?---what do you mean you are out of Black! I just drove 50 miles.

So...OK...Orvis will have some. I'll take anything---any brand. Gotta have it now. DFrove to Orvis. Another 45 miles, to Lake George. No Floss.

Ok, a place called "Fish 306". They have fly tying materials. Drove there....no Floss at all..

Back home now---where's that Black Floss???

Should have called me Mike, I would have put a spool in the mail and you would have saved $20 in gas.

That is why I keep these pens around. Works when in a pinch and when I make a goof wrapping the body and is cheaper than a tank of gas.

Well, it's obviously John's fault,
for posting that Quill Gordon.

I know that I had my black floss out last night,
trying to emulate that beautiful quill/floss combo.
(only somewhat successfully...)

Cor...
What I told him, as I've told others, is I don't "sell" flies. What I've asked is that they send a donation to the CFFCM---for an amount I leave up to them. And encourage a membership at CFFCM. (One guy sent $50.00 to the Center).

So---that's what I told him. If he wants a Black Toome---he has to donate---directly to the Center.

Black Toome---I could have thought of one hell of a nicer fly than that for him. Maybe he's gone Gothic, or something. If you see a guy in Black---ask him to see his fly box..
